Artist Talk - Finalist TAMA Art Gallery of Ararat August 23 2023
On 8th of September 2023 I will be giving an artist talk about my work, in relation to the WAMA 2023 Art Prize, for which I was shortlisted.
The WAMA finalist exhibition runs from August 19 - November 19 at the TAMA Gallery Ararat.
Artist Residency Grampians 2023 July 10 2023
In MAY 2023 I was given the opportunity to spend 8 days in a secluded part of the Grampians, Australia. My aim was to explore new ideas and completely emerge myself in my work and the landscape. There was no contact, or very little, with anyone else. No distractions, complete focus on creating new work.

I am fascinated by the way we perceive the landscapes we find ourselves in. Rather than simply viewing it through a camera lens, I take a more holistic approach. I like to consider what was there originally and how the landscape has changed over time. I also think about why certain places hold specific meanings and what the consequences of our interference with the landscape may be or have been. Can we restore parts of it to its original habitat and manage it differently?
Tuning in to the landscape, listening to the movement of sound through the trees and feeling its temperature and texture. These sensations trigger images in my mind that result in paintings, or even words.
Ultimately, I hope to bring greater awareness to the viewer on how we can experience landscapes differently, appreciating them more and resulting in greater respect for the land and therefore the future of it.

Adaptation - Glassworks Canberra December 16 2020
Works by Ingrid Bowen, Susie Dureau, Sharon Field, Sara Freeman, Hannah Gason, Stefan Gevers, Isobel Rayson, Harriet Schwarzrock and Jo Victoria
Ultimately, belief in tomorrow fosters endurance, resilience and gently encourages us to adapt to our changed environment. Adaptation is a salute to moving forward in whatever environment we find ourselves. The events of 2020 have highlighted the need for collaboration and supporting each other as a community and so Canberra Glassworks has partnered with Suki & Hugh Gallery to present this exhibition.
Peter Mac Callum Collection 2020-2021 December 16 2020So very exited that "Velvet Sky" from the Solstice show is being welcomed into the Peter McCallum Art collection from January 2020. I have many times admired the works on display and still do, while accompany my wife for her treatment. I am glad that my work in the collection can change to focus of those who visit Peter MAC in a positive way.
Water Shadows | Suki & Hugh | February 8 – March 15 - 2020 January 02 2020
Jo Victoria (ceramics) and Stefan Gevers (watercolour) are artists whose work is revealed through materials & process. Collaboration with the medium is a strong focus for both. Jo presents work with a consistent watery theme where marks and holes appear etched and carved by water. Stefan’s impressive use of colour and line form balanced and beautiful compositions inspired by the landscape around Lake George, NSW.
