Note: These works were to be exhibited in June 2025, but canceled due to the sudden closure of TACIT gallery.
Artist Statement: Polarities 2025 Art has always been a powerful medium for exploring the complexities of the human experience, and can serve as a bridge between seemingly conflicting realities. Stefan Gevers watercolour sculptures navigate the reconciliation of polarities. His work invites us to celebrate the contrasts—between fragility and strength, tranquility and unease, humanity and nature—finding harmony where discord might prevail.
Gevers’ approach of combining minimalist sculptural forms with soft, buttery pastel hues results in artworks that exude tranquility yet subtly hint at underlying complexities. The delicate balance of intentionally damaging the paper—pushing it to a threshold where it remains intact—introduces a compelling tension that mirrors the delicate equilibrium we strive for amid life's uncertainties. These watercolour sculptures embody duality: they serve as both contemplative landscapes and intimate personal expressions. Through this interplay, Gevers invites viewers to explore the nuanced coexistence of calm and tension, encouraging reflection on the fragile balance inherent in our experiences.
Stefan Gevers; “As I continue my artistic journey, I strive to embody this reconciliation of polarities in my own work. I am inspired by the potential to create spaces where viewers can reflect on their own contrasts—a place where they might feel both at peace and in contemplation of their inner complexities. Whether through texture, colour, or form, my goal is to invite others to embrace the dualities of the human experience. I have always been captivated by the interplay between color and texture, specifically how these elements craft a sensory intimit experience that is both visual and tactile”.
