Print Definitions
To help in selecting the right artwork, we have outlined some terms used to describe the process or manufacture of our products:
GICLEE PRINTING
(Zhee-Klay) Giclee comes from the French for "to spray". It is a method of high quality fine art printing using an inkjet printer. Giclee printing is used for the archival reproductions of original artworks, the level of detail & colour surpasses any other form of digital printing.
Our printers are absolute art printing specialists & only using the true Giclee printing system of water based UV Pigment Ink, as well as premium PH neutral and acid free fine art papers.
Giclee prints offer high-resolution imaging and long term colour fidelity through the use of light-fast high quality archival inks.
LIMITED EDITION PRINT
A limited edition print is a limited production of a specific piece of artwork. The prints are produced directly from original work, where it has been scanned or photographed and are strictly limited to the number in the edition. Our limited editions are either hand signed or have the artists printed signature & hand numbered.
Some prints have the artists deboss stamp. We recomend careful handling of all prints & framing by professional framer.
DIGITAL PRINTS
Modern printing methods such as laser and ink-jet printing are known as digital printing. In digital printing, an image is sent directly to the printer using digital files such as PDFs . This eliminates the need for a printing plate, excess proofs & paper waste which can save money and time. You can also control the quantity produced to smaller numbers.
LINOCUT
Linocut is a form of relief printing. A design is carved into a piece of lino (linoleum). This is inked with a brayer (though you can use a brush, it's harder to get the ink even), and a print made by placing a sheet of paper on top so the ink is transferred to the paper. Pressure is applied to get an even transfer of the ink by either running the linocut block and paper through a printing press or using a burnisher. Although many prints can be made from one block, every print is unique to the effect of the rolled ink & transfer onto the paper. Incredible detail can also be achieved in this process.
COTTON RAG PAPER
The paper we use most most limited editions is a 100% Cotton Rag art paper. Made from French Cold Press Textured art paper that encompasses the organic random texture and flexible qualities that only cotton rag can give. The construction does not contain any optical brighteners in the base or the coating, and the tone is a pleasant natural shade designed especially for fine art reproduction.
FSC PAPER
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC does this by setting standards on forest products, along with certifying and labeling them as eco-friendly.
