Do you find beauty and intrigue in the plant world, and wish you could recreate this with art?
In this 7 week botanic illustration course you will be guided in an encouraging atmosphere through the fundamentals of botanical art. Areas of focus will include materials, drawing, shading, watercolour painting and brush techniques, along with helping to develop and hone your observational skills. Techniques that cover drawing, composition, colour theory will be offered in class.

TUTOR: Jessie Rose Ford specialises in floral and botanical art. Jessie is a professional award winning exhibiting artist whose work has most recently received a Highly Commended Award from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. She has a Bachelor of Illustration, specific training in botanical art, and recently spent 6 months travelling from Melbourne to Cairns via Mount Gambier in SA, she has held 14 workshops in small towns and cities, arriving in Cairns for a 2 week Artist Residency at the Cairns Botanic Gardens. Having never travelled so far North this adventure was a fabulous way for her to explore Australia's diverse natural environments while sharing her knowledge and engaging with different communities.
Materials: Students need to bring there own materials (as listed below) or can purchase a starter pack ($85). Boards, tape, water containers and paper towel are supplied. Starter pack can be ordered through this website as well on the classes page.
Starterpack: Students can purchase a pre made kit or supply the items as listed; Watercolour palette with wells including 9 artist quality paints: lemon yellow, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, cobalt blue, sap green, permanent rose, cerulean blue, paynes grey and black. 3 Watercolour brushes ( No 2, 4 and 8), Pencil, Knead able eraser, 10 sheets of A4 size 300gsm cold press watercolour paper.
